Ami cat and dog foods are finally here!

You'll notice that we rearranged shelves and moved the companion animal products to make more room, because Ami cat and dog foods, imported from Italy, are finally here! We're offering most Ami products at a special introductory price - the next shipment will bring increased prices; now's the time to try it on your furry friends.

What's so great about Ami? For one, rumor has it that cats who refuse to eat all other vegan foods will happily eat Ami. For another, unlike all other vegan food with the synthetic version of vitamin D (D2), Ami's vitamin D3 is natural, sourced from mushrooms. It's a more bio-available form of this critical vitamin. Ami also has 2 dog chews, one with beneficial pre-biotics for good digestion, and one with omega-3 for healthy sweet-doggie hearts.

Sitka's Organics Pet Products

Sitka's Organics Pet Products are all-vegan and locally-made. We're starting with their Herbal Vinegar Rinse for flakey skin, a no-beeswax liniment for aches and sprains, and their founding product: Tooth Gel with no meat flavors or ingredients, formulated by a dentist! I used the tooth gel on my greyhound (notorious for bad teeth) and her teeth practically sparkled like a magazine ad.

Raw vegan treats for dogs?

Raw vegan treats for dogs? Revolutionary! These new creations, made here in Washington State, were a big hit with my dog, who otherwise turns into a total stress-ball at the sight of dog treats, and I think your canine will like them, too. Miss Mag's Raw Energy Treats are little cookies, wrapped in pairs for freshness. And if your dog is a fussy eater, give the Raw Sprinkles a try. This "condiment" adds excitement and raw-veg nutrients that surely will spark your choosy pup's interest.

Natural Life's Vegetarian Dog Food

Natural Life's Vegetarian Dog Food is another vegan option and at a price point we like! Even when it's not on sale, which it is. So the price is great. With added omega-3 and -6, it's great for dogs with skin problems, weight concerns, and digestive issues. We have the 8 lb bags, and can easily order the 20# if your pup favors it. Speaking of special orders…

Special Orders and Case Discounts

Due to our store's diminutive (ahem) square footage we cannot stock everything, but we do have access to the same distribution network that other natural food stores have, so I can get many items they carry. If you have a favorite item and would like to order it through us, let us know! For the most part, food items must be ordered by the case, but body care and supplements can generally be ordered as singles.

When ordering by the case, you will automatically be quoted a discounted case price. You can get bulk items, flavors we don't stock, or your beloved Amy's burritos. We order weekly from the major distributors, so often times you'll only need to wait a few days. If you have a favorite product, we can also let you know when it will be on sale.

Please note: quantity discounts are not available when pulling large amounts of an item off the shelf - please understand that having items available for customers is how Sidecar thrives, and items on the shelves have already incurred costs that case-lots do not incur. If you know you will want a whole case of, oh I dunno, Tofurky deli slices for example, we will get you your very own to hoard - er, I mean, to enjoy!

News from the World of Food

Just a couple bit of good news I wanted to share:

While prices everywhere rise, we find ways to make prices fall. Playfood, the lovely raw cashew-based cheese in Cheezy Cheez and Nacheezmo, is now nearly half its original price, at $4.25/container.

Ooh ooh ooh! Gardenburger is back on the shelves. Phew! Gardenburger was bought by Kraft, and the production was re-tooled, hence the long absence. Fingers crossed they don't mess with the formulas.

Halloween's Coming…

and we have all the vegan goodies you need already here. What more need I say?

Helping Sidecar Thrive

Using credit cards and debit cards are a part of life these days - many of us don't even routinely carry cash or a checkbook. At Sidecar for Pigs Peace, we are happy to take your card for your purchases, so hand over your card guilt-free! We couldn't stay in business if we didn't accept plastic.

Every small retailer pays a fee for every swipe, with some cards having a higher fee than others; it's a business expense. Just for the fun of it, I added up how much the store paid in fees over the course of 12 months. If I told you the amount, you'd faint. Suffice it to say that if you happen to have the cash to pay for your purchase, the savings to our business will add up, making Sidecar for Pigs Peace that much more successful!

Please don't feel bad when you don't have the cash - we want to see your smiling face and keep your belly happy. Some of our customers have expressed they'd be willing to pay a surcharge to help cover the fees, as required by other small businesses. I learned something recently, and you might be interested to know this tidbit as well: it is strictly against Visa and Mastercard rules (this is probably true for AmEx and Discover, too) for businesses to charge a fee for credit/debit purchases, or to require a minimum purchase. Who knew? Anyway, we'd rather just have your business, without attaching strings.
