Happy News!

Thanks to all of your support, Sidecar For Pigs Peace has again been nominated for "Best Vegan Store" in the VegNews Veggie Awards! And, the Pigs Peace Sanctuary is nominated in the "Best Sanctuary" category! We're up against stiff competition: companies with both storefronts *and* online sales, so their audience is national. New Products

OK, I expect pats on the back, cheers, accolades, and various other shows of appreciation, for I bring you… Temptation ice cream! Yes, my friends, the much-touted and very delicious ice cream from the good folks at Chicago Soy Dairy is now available here in Washington, exclusively at Sidecar For Pigs Peace. And it really does live up to its (considerable) reputation.

Alas, one of the flavors, Cookie Dough, has already sold out, even before I could type up the announcement! This was due in part to the distributor being low so he couldn't fill my order completely, but he will have it to me in a couple of weeks. What's the lesson here? Shop often and get first dibs!

Tasty Bites Simmer Sauces

From Tasty Bites we have two "simmer sauces" to make authentic Thai and Indian dinners oh-so-fast - just add veggies and/or protein, heat and serve - in Pad Thai and Good Korma flavors.

Tofutti Chopped Olive

Tofutti cream cheese has expanded to include a Chopped Olive version. Now you can really go wild with your canapés. (You know you want to.)

Back to school

Sidecar for Pigs Peace may not be the first store that comes to mind when you think of preparing your kidlets for school, but consider the evidence:
Soy crayons, cleverly designed in the shape of rocks to help kids grip better, in rich colors and fun shapes. (Did you know that most crayons are from petroleum or beeswax?)

Lunchbox-size cookies and potato chips, as well as snack foods for the teacher to keep on hand. EcoPlanet non-dairy cheddar crackers, Stonewall's Jerquee, and Late July mini peanut butter sandwich cookies are just a few of our healthier treats.

Your kids never get a second chance to make a first impression. So outfit them right with vegan message shirts! The new adorable shirts for kids are very popular - I'll be getting in more sizes ASAP, so if you don't see your kid's size just now, don't fret. My son gets lots of positive feedback when he wears his.

News from the World of Food

Ah, summer! It's so lovely when everything's in bloom. Including the … chocolate? You read that right: bloomin' chocolate. "Bloom" is the term for the white film that develops when chocolate is subjected to temperature changes (such as happens when it is shipped on trucks, stored in cool warehouses, then put on a shelf in a store that gets warm in the day and cool at night - hey, that's us!). The cocoa butter rises to the surface, causing the whitening. Chocolate bloom is not an indicator of poor quality; rather it is purely an aesthetic issue. Our chocolates, should they have bloomed, will still taste great!

White Wave seitan products are now coming in under the Westsoy label. Turns out that White Wave sold off its tofu and seitan products to Westsoy. I thought you might like to know, at the very least, that the seitan you've known as White Wave has a new name.
