Who needs cows?
Not I, for I have seen the future and it is…

…artisanal vegan cheese

Follow Your Heart's Vegan Gourmet has its place in our kitchens. Sheese holds a place, too (especially on crackers). Cheezly, long-time British favorite, also has its place. And now…

Playfood has arrived on the scene, and it is, in my humble opinion, amazing. Made of raw cashews (though not an entirely raw product), the 4 soft cheese flavors from Playfood hold an entirely different place in a versatile vegan repertoire. You really have to try it to believe it. Kids will love it! Does it taste like cow cheese? No, not exactly. Does it have a better taste than cow cheese? Yes, indeed it does. Find them in the refrigerator with all the other fine offerings in artisanal vegan cheeses. By the way, all these crafted vegan cheeses are gluten-free!

Gluten-Free

Speaking of gluten-free, we now have dedicated shelves for gluten-free items in the baking section and the freezer. In fact, in the freezer you can find the new burgers from Chez Gourmet. Available as patties and as appetizer-size "bites," Chez Gourmet products are made of fresh, quality ingredients by a family down in Lake Oswego, OR. They're delicious and a great value, too.

Mother's Day

Expanding the boutique offerings, we have beautiful handmade shoulder bags and clutches from a Peruvian mother's cooperative. These bags are not only fairly traded, but also made of durable 100% recycled polypropylene. Between these and the lovely Queen Bee offerings, we have your Mother's Day gift waiting for you.

What else is new?

Just some of the new items that fall under the "gotta try" category:

  • Jel dessert! 3 flavors (and an unflavored option) that taste and act just like the gelatin you loved as a kid.
  • Strawberry Lemon Love flavor from the healthiest frozen dessert makers, Coconut Bliss.
  • Cream Cheese and Sour Cream from Follow Your Heart, the makers of Vegan Gourmet.
  • New t-shirts - I have just a few left of the organic Italian shirts that have been popular.
  • Amy's new vegan meal, Tamale Verde
  • The latest VegNews magazine is here, and it features… me! Okay, not just me. It's their best-selling issue in which they spotlight several vegan weddings. If you like to hear about creative vegan celebrations with drool-worthy menus, this is the issue for you.

Coming soon… more raw, more gluten-free, and more healthy snacks. But don't wait for those - drop in and see what's already here at Sidecar for Pigs Peace!

Supporting Sidecar for Pigs Peace, supporting the Pigs Peace Sanctuary

Every day there's at least one customer who asks, "so, how's the store doing?" Good question. As a non-profit, we're lucky - as long as we can pay our bills, the store can continue. If we had to pay employees, we would have closed our doors long ago. This point came home to me when Three Little Figs, the vegan store in Boulder, folded. "There but for the grace of non-profit status goes Sidecar," I thought. But just paying our bills isn't the same as thriving, and thriving is where we need to be if we are to really help the Sanctuary, especially with the frighteningly rising prices of pig feed and other necessities.

So with each newsletter, I'll share ideas with you that you can use, if it suits your style, to help Sidecar for Pigs Peace thrive. Sidecar benefited greatly from the exposure we got at VegFest last March, but talking to attendees at VegFest highlighted how few vegans in our area know about our store. Shocking! This newsletter's suggestion is that you make a point to ask your veg friends if they're shopping at Sidecar for Pigs Peace, and if they realize this store is a non-profit that supports the Pigs Peace Sanctuary. Word-of-mouth is the best advertising for any business, and as our experience at VegFest illustrated, we still need all the exposure we can get.

THANK YOU for your continued support!

With love,
Doh
